Which corporate hospital in Hyderabad has the best Facebook Cover image? “Integrity is the ability to stand by an idea.” ― Ayn Rand, The Fountainhead Most of you thought it is Apollo Health City's Facebook cover image but it's not. Surprised? Read on. Though Apollo Health City Facebook page has 65k followers, using a generic campaign creative on its cardiac treatment expertise looks vague. My feeling is that either a patient or a star heart transplant surgeon should have been at the heart of the cover image. In case of the latter, my bet is on Dr Alla Gopala Krishna Gokhale, Cardio Thoracic Surgeon, who could have been featured instead but the management may be wary of a doctor becoming bigger than the hospital. This creative goes well with the violet color of Care Hospitals but the designer should have run a spell-check on November! By the way, lung cancer being the most common cancer in Indian men could be factually incorrect. It s...

The first three successful robotic kidney transplant in Telugu states was done at Yashoda Hospitals. The complicated kidney transplant surgeries necessitated the use of most advanced methods and equipment. These operation were done during the month of October at Yashoda Hospitals ‘Center for Nephrology & Urology in Secunderabad.
The team comprising Dr. Suri Babu(urologist) and Dr. Urmila Anandh -Dr.Suresh Babu both Nephrologists have conducted two more robotic kidney transplants along with the first ever in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states.
They have totally recovered and leading normal life. In these first three robot-assisted kidney transplant surgeries, women donated kidneys to their son and husband.
Kidney transplantation is the standard of care for patients with the end-stage renal disease. While open surgery is being performed for over six decades. Robotic surgery has been recently introduced for the recipient undergoing kidney transplantation.
First Robo assisted kidney surgery was done in France and at present in our country only in few centres like Delhi, Ahmedabad and Cochin it is being performed. Unlike regular surgeries for kidney transplantation where the patient receives the kidney through a larger muscle cutting process. Robotic surgery is conducted with only a small incision and involves no cutting of muscle.
The Da Vinci robo system is used in a specific way to ensure vibration-free movement of the instrument thus causing no damage to the graft kidney. This ensures minimal chances of infection and faster recovery of the patient and the donor.
“We at Yashoda Hospitals give highest priority to acquire latest, state of the art technology which can give faster, long lasting relief from their ailments. Our surgeon who were trained and worked with prestigious international & national medical centers are making best use of theses fecilities to give best of the best results to patients.” said Dr. G.S. Rao, Mangaing Director, Yashoda Group of Hospitals.
Raju Konga (35), a mobile shop owner from Hyderabad was suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease(CKD) since December 2016 and went a private hospital in the city could not get ‘satisfactory treatment’. Then came to Yashoda Hospitals at Secunderabad in May 2017.
After that, he was on regular follow up with Dr Urmila Anandh, Senior Nephrologist. In August month, Raju got a urinary infection. He was suggested for Nephrectomy and it was done. From that time he was on dialysis for a month.
Finally, Robo assisted Kidney transplantation was done on October 6. This six-hour-long surgery was successful and his present condition is fine. The live kidney donor, his mother Mallikamba (70)is also doing well.
The very next day the same team of Doctors have performed another Robo assisted kidney transplant to Ajay Kurre(38). This businessman from Bilaspur of Chhattisgarh state was suffering from CKD(Chronic Kidney Disease) from Jaunuary 2017.
Initially, he went a local hospital in Bilaspur and was suggested to undergo a Kidney transplant. His wife Jyothi Kurre(26) was willing to donate her kidney. He came to Secunderabad Yashoda Hospitals in September with swollen hands and legs. Ajay was not on dialysis. Kidney transplant was scheduled for October. The couple went back to their place and came as scheduled and kidney was transplanted with robotic-assisted surgery.
A lecturer(40) in a hotel management college at Delhi was undergo robo assisted kidney transplant on 16th of October. He was suffering with diabetes, hypertension for more than 5 years. This has lead to CKD four years back necessitating kidney transplant.
For last two years, the lecturer was on dialysis. He came to Yashoda Hospitals with swelling of hands and feet. Keeping his complicated health conditions kidney transplant team consisting of Dr. Suri Babu(urologist) and Dr. Suresh Babu, Nephrologist at Yashoda Hospitals suggested robo assisted surgery and successfully completed it. He and his wife who donated her kidney are doing well now.
“These families were apprised about the latest robotic technology and its benefits, including a lesser risk of infection, lesser pain, and a faster return to normalcy. Higher magnification and finer scaled movement of robotic instruments ensured greater precision in this method.” explained Dr Suri Babu, the urologist who done the transplant surgery.
He added, that the robotic surgical system eliminates human termer, an essential requirement for performing a good vascular anastomosis. With this robotic surgery allows kidney transplantation to be performed with great precision, minimal blood loss, and a lesser chance of post-operative infection. “This is an advanced procedure performed in very few centres in the world,” said Dr. Suri Babu.
“It has been a privilege for us to perform Telugu states first robotic kidney transplant at Yashoda hospitals. We are thrilled the patient and the donor are doing well and the operation was a great success,” said Dr. Urmila Anandh and Dr.Suresh Babu Nephrologists. The doctors said that the particular robot has been in use previously for other surgeries but was used for the first time for a Kidney transplant.

Analysis: Who’s to be blamed for the mess in Fathima Institute of Medical Sciences?
T he starry-eyed dreams of 100 young medicos came crashing when the Medical Council of India (MCI) decided to de-recognise the MBBS admissions for the entire 2016-17 batch in Fathima Institute of Medical Sciences, Kadapa. These medicos from Andhra Pradesh created a scene in Delhi when they threatened to commit suicide after the MCI took the harsh decision against the private medical college for failing to meet education standards at its Executive Committee meet held on 23d May, 2017 in New Delhi but who is to be blamed for this mess? Is it the over-ambitious college management or the MCI’s lethargic assessment system or the poor decision making skills of the medicos and their parents? Well, minimum medical standards are required to be met by all medical colleges in the country as set by MCI so that those passing out have enough skills and training to treat patients. But it is foolhardy to expect MCI’s assessment system to deliver its verdict on formal recognition of a cour...
Fake doctors & Real politicians: The deadly mix for public health
On 24 August the union health minister Jagat Prakash Nadda shot off a 200-worded letter to NDA ally and TDP supremo Nara Chandrababu Naidu urging him to take 'appropriate action and corrective steps under the law against quacks' in his state. The wonder of wonders is that union health minister was compelled to do that after his junior state counterpart and Andhra Pradesh health minister Kamineni Srinivas held a press conference at AP secretariat on 21 August, announcing their government's intention to legally recognize the profession of quackery in their state! It is another story that AP's yellow media, pampered by ruling TDP, did not bother to check the technical usage of the abbreviations RMP and PMP as they freely used the suffixes for their front page stories on the deadly initiative. Well, if AP's health minister announces their 'path-breaking' initiative for rural health, will Telangana's ruling party pol...
