OGH docs shun reluctance, declare brain deaths

It is the beginning of a good sign.

In fact, it is a proud moment for Osmania General Hospital after the brain death declaration of Bhanu Kumar, 30, resident of Amberpet, was signed by doctors.

He was declared brain dead on 24/ l l / 2017 in Osmania General Hospital. His relatives agreed to donate his organs through Jeevandan.

Though private hospitals have been converting more number of brain death patients for cadaver organ transplants,  years of reluctance in signing brain death declaration by government doctors had killed many terminally ill patients without a transplant.

Under rules, a neurologist or neurosurgeon needs to sign on the brain death declaration report but this seems to have changed now.

NEW MILESTONE

Meanwhile, Osmania General Hospital crossed a new milestone after departments of Gastroenterology, Urology, Nephrology & Anaesthesia completed successful transplants of liver and kidney in two different patients.

The liver transplant recipient was a 27 years old female from Hyderabad. She was suffering from chronic liver disease with cirrhosis due to autoimmune hepatitis since 6 years while the kidney transplant recipient is a male patient, 39, an electrician from Hyderabad. He was suffering with Chronic kidney Disease.

Incidentally, both the recipients were operated on 24-11-2017.

The Superintendent of Osmania General Hospital congratulated the team of doctors led by Dr. Ch Madhusudhan, Surgical gastroenterologist, Dr.Ramesh medical gastroenterologist, Dr.Manisha Sahay-Nephrologist, Dr.V.S.R.K.Prasad Urologist and Dr.Pandu Naik-Anaesthesiologist.
